GNAB Explores Newfoundland - Day 9

"Today was a more relaxing pace" - B.

And it was.  We started the morning a little later due to the party goers getting in at Midnight.  The morning was rainy which caused the power to go out a few times.  But luckily we were able to make our coffee, tea and Lola's waffles before it went out again.

After breakfast, we drove up to Signal Hill - taking a few detours as there was a race just finishing up which had lots of streets closed and spectators/participants walking near downtown.  The view from the top of Signal Hill was spectacular:

St. John's Harbour

The view towards Cape Spear

And, we didn't get rained on too much.

After walking around the hill, learning about the history of Signal Hill (used to signal ships wishing to enter the St. John's Harbour) and then used as the spot for the first wireless signal sent across the Atlantic Ocean, we made our way back into St. John's for lunch at Jack Astors.  We were not disappointed:

AA had a caesar

B had the Jigs Stack Poutine (see below)

The view
N's favourite part about lunch was the women's bathroom:

With full bellies, we made our way back to Signal Hill to go to the Johnson's Geo Centre to learn about the geology of Newfoundland and Labrador.  There was a lot to learn about and even after spending 2 hrs there, we still didn't read all about the Oil and Gas Industry here or the Titanic Exhibit.

The rock wall inside the Geo Centre (the rocks were over 450 million years old)

At around 3:30, we were off to our next stop only 5 mins away - Quidi Vidi brewery for a quick drink.  We were quite surprised by how quaint the village was and how narrow the streets were (and the lack of parking).

After everyone finished their drinks we took a short walk near the water and then we went back to downtown St. John's to have supper at Yellow Belly's pub.

Lola found a survey pin / geodetic
Lola surprised everyone with having mussels and we were even more surprised by the size of dish that the "small order" was:

AA's flatbread pizza

N's order of chicken wings

B's order of fish and chips

She finished them all

The walk back to the car was a wet one.  Lola was the only one who brought her rain jacket with her and remained dry while everyone else walked back in the rain shower.

We are now enjoying the evening, watching a movie (Cast Away) and relaxing.

Good night!

AA
