Hawaii, Jan 9, 2023 - Day 6

We said Mahalo to the Big Island of Hawaii this morning and Aloha to Kauai. Our flight boarded just after 8 am this morning, so we got up early to check out, return our rental car and get to the airport.  We weren't early, but weren't late.  We were right on time as we got to the gate as they were calling zone 2 (we were zone 4).

The Hawaiian airlines flight was a short trip over to the next island on our adventure.  We took off at 8:29 and landed about 9:10am. Flight was pretty uneventful as we were sitting on the ocean side of the airplane not the land side so other got to see the other islands as we flew, but we saw clouds and ocean, still a pretty cool view.  Lola looked for whales but was unsuccessful.

Once landed we headed to the shuttle to get our rental car.  They were not "ready" for us as they said they would be, but we waited patiently for our Malibu to be cleaned and ready for us to go.

Next stop, Costco. Lola wanted to check things out, we got a few things including a new go pro, as AA's wouldn't turn on.

We headed to Target to get a few things and then found one of our favorite restaurants that we went to in 2013, Kalapaki Joes.  This was a new location but it didn't open till 11am so we walked around the mall for a few minutes until we could go in.  The food was still excellent, the portion sizes were huge, Lola couldn't even finish (which isn't like her).

Once we were fed, we headed up the coast towards our rented condo and stopped at Safeway to get a few more groceries for breakfast and a few meals.

Arrived at our condo to get settled and headed to the nearby beach, Hanalei Bay. Once arrived at the beach, we sat on the beach and enjoyed the surfers in the big waves.

We spend the better part of the afternoon watching the surfers and headed to check out Hanalei to try and find some eggs (as there were none in Safeway).  The eggs were 8.69 for 12..... that is a lot. Most of the other food was similar priced to what we pay, but not all items.

One lane bridge

We are on the Garden Island!

Back at the condo, we made supper, Lola talked to her parents for a little while and then we enjoyed our evening doing a load of laundry, and playing Mario Party.

We will see what time we get woken up in the morning, as there are some roosters and chickens that hang round our place....

Night Lola.
