Hawaii, Jan 12, 2023 - Day 9

Today had a slower start.  AA was pretty tired from the hike the yesterday and didn't really want to rush out of bed, so instead he got up at 8:15.  After having breakfast at the condo, the duo decided to take a short hike right from the condo to go to a beach nearby.  The hike goes through the Old Club Med ruins which are really something to see (ref. https://www.kauaitravelblog.com/club-med-ruins-kauai/).

The hike wasn't very strenuous (which was welcomed) and the beach was fairly secluded and not very busy.

After watching the waves crash against the shore (and out at sea), counting turtles and watching a couple different schools of fish in the water, it was time to make the short walk back for lunch.

Once lunch was finished and dishes were done, it was time to go to the Kilauea Lighthouse and Wildlife Reserve.  The views from Kilauea Point were amazing and the waves crashing against the shore were thunderous.  And the birds flying overhead and Nene sunning themselves on the grounds were numerous.

Next up was some beach time.  Originally, we were going to go to Lydgate Beach but the high surf warning was all over the island, so instead we decided to go somewhere nearby - Anini Beach which has a wide breakwater reef that protects the beach.  We were able to go for a quick swim (AA was nervous about the current that was pretty strong) before enjoying the warm sun on the beach.

We decided to change locations to go back to Puu Poa beach, where we were in the morning.  We didn't go all the way to the beach but found a nice, isolated spot overlooking Hanalei Bay and the mountain range in the distance.  The high surf was really putting mist into the air which made for some interesting photos.

After the sun had set, it was time to get ready for dinner in Hanalei at Kalypso's Restaurant before relaxing back at the condo.

Tomorrow is our last full day on Kauai and we are looking forward to making the most of it.

Goodnight!  AA
