Tucson, Arizona 2022 - Nov 7-10th, 2022

Nov 7th, 2022

AA had to travel for work to do some testing, so Lola tagged along. It has been a long time since Lola had been in AZ and AA hadn't been for a lot of years either.

They flew on the direct flight to Phoenix and then drove to Tucson. It was a great concept, except the flight was delayed leaving, and then they spent 45 minutes on the Tarmac waiting for a gate.  We ran into AA's old friend from school, so it was nice to have a chat with her while we were waiting for our flight to leave.

We eventually made it to the rental car location, (but shuttle), where the first car had a low tire pressure warning and the second "upgrade" Durango had only 1/4 tank of gas.  We went on our way anyway as it was late and we had an early morning.

We stopped for Gas and McDonalds before heading out of Phoenix to get to Tucson. The drive was pretty uneventful, but the moon was so bright we could see the mountains.

Today was pretty uneventful, breakfast together at the hotel,  Lola worked at the hotel room (using the tv as an extra monitor), walked to Denny's for lunch and AA got ready for his testing the next day.

We got invited for drinks in the evening, so we headed up the mountain side to the JW Marriot to sit out on the wonderful Terrace for a drink before going for supper.

They got to supper, at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill.  Lola ordered the Deviled Eggs and Steak and Potato.  Unfortunately, the steak was very undercooked, so she ate around the outside. The waitress never came to check, and felt really bad when she saw Lola had barely ate it, so she asked the manger to give us a free meal. The eggs were so good that Lola didn't really care about the steak. AA had some kind of pasta dish, he enjoyed it but it was large.

Lola and AA headed back to hotel and went to bed.

Breakfast at the hotel and Lola worked at the hotel again.  AA went to do his testing which didn't go as well as he anticipated. Lola ordered Uber Eats for lunch from Chickenuevo.  She accidently got confused about what time it was and ordered food at 10:30am because her work computer didn't change the time like she had thought.  She ate in the nice courtyard of the hotel, and spent the rest of her lunch soaking up some sun by the pool.

Lola worked all afternoon waiting for AA to arrive they could head to their friends Jason and Katie's who they hadn't seen in years and to meet their son Logan, who was born during the pandemic.  Their dog Riley was also happy to see us.

We made it to their place where we had a wonderful meal of Steak, Shrimp, Potatoes, veggies and some flamin' Cheetos Mac and Cheese.  We played with Logan, chatted with our friends and tried not to overstay our welcome, please AA had to get to bed, as he had testing early in the morning. It was so nice to see them again!  (Lola didn't take any photos except for her and Logan).

Nov 10th, 2022

This was our last day in AZ, AA was pretty stressed as they had to redo their test in the morning, and hopefully it passed before leaving to go back to Phoenix to catch their flights.  Lola was in the hotel working until she got kicked out at 1pm.

She worked from the Lobby while waiting for AA to come get her.  The testing pasted and their plans would still work out! They went to Denny's for a late lunch then headed to Arizona State University to go to the book store and walk around and Lola had to get some Disney Arizona State University Sweater!  She was really looking for a new Arizona Gymnastics shirt, but they didn't have those this time. There were these cooler looking things that went down the sidewalks where all the students were, we eventually figured out they were food delivery (or we think so).

They spend about 1 hour there, then headed back to the car to head to Phoenix.  The drive was pretty good except for a few spots where traffic was pretty backed up.  Lola and AA talked about the places along the way and had a very pleasant drive back to the airport.

Once back at the rental car return, we headed to the shuttle and made our way through security and had some dinner.  They went to a OHSO brewery and had good burgers and fries (and AA had beer of course).

So here is the twist.... they weren't going home together.  Lola had booked a flight to TX to visit their friends, while AA was heading back home, to get ready for another work trip the following week.

They were supposed to leave 5 minutes apart, but Lola's flight was delayed, so AA actually ended up leaving well before Lola.  But since her flight was shorter, she actually landed 5 minutes before he did.

AA got home to it snowing, while Lola was happily picked up be DD!  Arizona was a great little work trip, but nice to get away for a little catch up with friends.
