Alberta, Lake Louise, Canmore and Banff, October 6th &7th , 2022 - Part 2

October 6th, 2022

We enjoyed breakfast in the rental condo and then headed to Lake Louise to catch the shuttle to get to Lake Louise.  We hadn't really planned anything we just had the time for the shuttle.

Once we got to Lake Louise Ski Resort, we parked, and headed to the bus.  It took us to Lake Louise which both AA and Lola had never been before.

The view was spectacular and the water was so blue!  We then decided what hike we were going on. Up the side of the mountain we went with our final destination being the Tea House.

The hike was way harder than anticipated these prairie legs and lungs were not used to the elevation. A few breaks were necessary as we went up the hill, but it was amazing.

On the way we had different views of the Lake Louise, as well as Mirror Lake as well as saw a cool bird, a waterfall and horse back riders. We also saw the Larch (which are pine looking trees that are Coniferous and turn yellow and supposedly very popular at this time of year).

We made it to Lake Agnes and the Tea House.  We tried to wait in the long line to get some tea, but decided our time could be spend better hiking down and finding lunch at the bottom... so that is what we did.

We headed back, and Lola decided that going a different way for part of the way would be better.  It was well worth it.  The view of the end of Lake Louise as well as the view of Plain of Six Glaciers.  Lola enjoyed this second half of the hike better than the first, as the first was a wider, paved path. the way back was a little more scenic and different views of the lake and beehive mountain.

We had some snacks from our bag during our approximately 4 hour hike, we tried to get lunch at the Fairmount, but too many signs that said "hotel guests only". So we got back on the shuttle bus and got back to the Lake Louise Ski resort to get some food. It wasn't that great, but it was food.  The gluten free brownie was very good!

After our late lunch we headed back on the bus to get to Moraine Lake.  We were pretty tired from our morning/afternoon hike, but wanted to check in out.

Once there we, the lake was so beautiful, we did a short hike to the other end, and then back.  The mountains were amazing, and the lake was a beautiful color when we got there, but once the sun starting going down, it really changed in colour.

At the one end, we were walking on some rocks, and Lola was trying to make sure she caught a good photo if AA fell in...well she slipped and sure got a wet foot!  Good thing it was a warm day, or else she would have been in trouble.

We headed back to the shuttle bus, and got to our car, and headed back to Canmore. We decided we would go to the grocery store, and make our own meal.  AA also stopped at the local brewery to get some beer.  We picked up steak, potatoes and some zucchini.  Supper was so good, and just what we needed. It was nice to have a BBQ in our rental. We headed to the hot tub after supper for a quick soak, and then ended the evening watching some tv.  It was definitely an early night time.

October 7th, 2022

We were pretty tired from the day before, so we just spend the day being tourists in Canmore and Banff.  So we did a short little hike in Canmore around the Bow River.  It was so beautiful, and Lola really enjoyed the bridges on the walk.

After a short walk we headed downtown to have lunch.  We went to The Grizzly Paw.  Lola was pretty excited to get a flight of soda, while AA enjoyed his flight of beer.

AA and Lola walked downtown Canmore looking to see if there was anything of interest them, Lola did purchase a piece of art!

Next stop was Banff.  We parked and then went for a hike along the Bow River there.  It ended up being a longer hike then they anticipated, but the the reward at the end was amazing, a waterfall that they had no idea was even there.

After the hike they headed to the downtown area, where they went to the Banff Park Museum, where there were animals (taxidermy) from over 100 year ago.  The building itself was a Museum.  It was pretty neat.

We headed downtown to try and find a sweatshirt that Lola wanted, but couldn't find anything she liked.  They were a little early for their supper reservation so they sat by the Bow River on a bench for a while.  They went to Park Distillery Restaurant for Dinner.  AA got a flight of Gin and Vodka, he didn't really enjoy it that much, and the food was alright but not as good as our home cooked meal the night before.

Lastly, we headed to Banff Upper Hot Springs.  It was pretty busy, but it sure felt great on our sore muscles.  We had never been there when our Hair doesn't freeze from the air outside so it was definitely a different experience.

It was a full moon that night, and wow did it lighten up the sky.

For having sore legs and hips, we sure did a lot of walking.  The minerals in the hot springs sure helped the muscles. Last full day in Alberta tomorrow.
