Texas - Aug 31-Sept 10, 2023

Sorry for the late post, but I only brought my work computer on the trip, and am unable to blog on it (they don't let you post on a work computer).  So it had to wait till we got home. (or much later).

Aug 31, 2023 - Winnipeg, MB to Austin, TX.

We arrived in Austin, after flying through Calgary, where we finally got to do a direct flight on WestJet from Calgary to Austin.  It was great, and pretty uneventful.  Since we used our companion passes we got to go Premium, therefore meals were provided, unfortunitly Westjet doesn't have allergies very well done on the plane, so Lola only got to pick through some snacks and salad, but still it was ok. It was nice to have all you can drink, and not limited to only 1 beverage.  DD picked us up from the airport, and when we got to their place, the kids were happily reading and could care less we made it.

Lola and MbMell headed to shake shack, for Lola's favorite, before heading back to the house to bring AA and DD food who had work meetings to do.  The babysitter arrived and the adults headed to Jurassic Park in the theatre, the 25th Anniversary.  The kids had pizza with the babysitter and convinced her to stay up till 10pm... on a school night.  The movie was good except for the adults that decided to bring young kids to this movie that were very disruptive, and at one point thought that the boy was going to be on AA's lap.

Sept 1, 2023 Austin TX to Woodlands, TX

Kids went to school (half day fridays), AA, Lola and DD worked half a day, got mcdonalds for lunch and then headed on the road to the Woodlands Resort which is by Houston once T was done Chess Club.

We stopped at Buc-ees to charge and get a snack.  3 of them enjoyed the pudding/pie in a cup, while Lola and AA shared a cheese, veggie cup.  We arrived at the resort, where check in was a disaster (computers were down), so the kids and Ladies went for a short walk outside where there were birds.  Once checked in we headed for dinner at Landry's Seafood, a short drive.  It was so good, lots of seafood was ingested.

Back at the hotel, the kids went to bed and the adults play some card games and enjoyed eachothers company.

Sept 2, 2023 Woodlands, TX

We enjoyed the buffet breakfast at the hotel which was a short walk to a different building, but wow there was so much variety and just super tasty!

Then off to the pool. We started in the lazy river where we went around a few times, enjoying when the waves went on, which really made you move around. The kids spent more time swimming than on a tube while the adults stayed in the tubes.  They had a great time.  They also enjoyed the waterslide that was half way around the lazy river.

We then headed to the next pool that AA and DD enjoyed playing in the pool, swimming, playing and going under the waterfall.  The ladies sat by the pool until it got to hot, and then sat at the side.  Forgot to mention the weather.  It is hot... 40 degrees C every day.

We checked out the last pool, which had great island with stuff painted on the walls and floor of the pool.  Kids enjoyed it with their goggles, and listening to the Disney music you could only hear under the water.

We got changed and cleaned up and Lola and MbMell took the kids to cooking class put on by the hotel.  they were all ready to participate when the head coordinator told all the adults to leave....um ok.  So we went and enjoyed a tea in the cafe, while AA and DD went to the store for some groceries and beer.  At the end of the time slot, the Ladies went back to the cooking area, where they were offered a tour of the kitchen... Wow that was impressive.  coolers, stoves, prep area, stores and freezers, as well as the dishes and washers.  The kids had a great time making spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, salad and no bake cheese cake.  Unfortunately T and B made garlic bread which wasn't the most exciting but still had a great time, and got to eat it.

So the adults still had to eat, so we went to the restaurant on site, Back Table.  This is where things began to go a little sideways.

T started to not feel so well, but still enjoyed some game time in the room with his dad. Barely ate any fries, but drank a lot of water, and MBMell had salmon with salad, where her lips began to swell.   Lola enjoyed her spicy drink, and food was really good.  We shared devilled eggs which were amazing.

On our way back to our hotel room, T was really not feeling well and unfortunately threw up in the hallway of our hotel building.

Back at the room, B and AA watched Frozen, while T spent some time in the bathroom.

Kids got to bed, with T on some towels incase he threw up again.... but that didn't help.  while the adults were playing games, all of a sudden T called out.... and realized he threw up again in the middle of the bed...missing the towels.

Cleaning up the mess, DD had experience from another hotel throwing up incident.  As Lola was helping put new sheets on the bed, she stubbed her middle finger... and turns out she broke the tendon on her finger.  Thankfully that was the end of the "bad" but Lola then tried to figure out if she should go to the dr, but luckily MbMell was very informed, and her mother in law had the same thing happen putting away a christmas tree.  So with some texts back and forth, and google shirts, MbMell splinted her finger and they finished playing their game, and then went to bed... hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Sept 3, 2023, Woodland and Houston

A few of us went for breakfast, and today was a different day than planned as we needed to stay out of the texas heat.  So we headed to the local pharmacy to find Lola a splint, and then to Starbucks to have a drink.  Once there we spontaneously went to the aviation museum. B wasn't too happy about it, but we needed an indoor activity and AA and DD were very excited.  We toured around, it had some neat planes, and even some stuff about space (but not suprised as we were in houston).  We stopped at a super charger and got some snacks.  Kids read their books the entire way as we didn't know we were going so far, and didn't have anything else to entertain themselves.

We headed back to Ale and Ivy for supper, where we all enjoyed our meal, and back to the hotel.  We had fun playing tower fall as a group, and then everyone went to bed.

Sept 4, 2023 (holiday Monday), Woodlands TX to Austin TX

Last awesome breakfast at the hotel again (everyone but DD), and then we checked out and headed to the pool before going back to Austin. This time Lola brought her nose plugs and goggles to be able to see the underwater features.  We had a great time at the pool, before heading to Shake Shack.  The food was so good!

Headed back to the house while stopped at Buc-ees again for a charging a pee break.

Back at the house, Lola and MBMell headed to the grocery store to get food for the next couple of days including supper.  Salad Bar was on the menu, and wow did we all enjoy it! After supper the kids went to bed and adults played games.

September 5, 2023, Austin TX (Top Golf)

Kids went to school, AA and DD worked.  Lola worked a little and then we had charcuterie for lunch before going to pick up the kids at school.

To Top Golf for supper and some golf.  We had a great time, but wow it was still so hot outside. The kids really had a good time playing angry birds.  Back at the house, kids went to bed, Lola and AA, and DD played cribbage while MBMell made lunches, and then we played some video and board games all 4 of us.

September 6, 2023 (Shopping, Swimming and Yard House)

Kids went to school, and AA worked.  DD, MbMell and Lola went shopping.  Wow we got DD some more cloths in a short period of time.  We had lunch at Chipotle after going to Old Navy, then headed to the outlet mall at Roundrock to get some essentials.... new hat for Devin and to gap to find the best jeans....like the old days, he was so excited.

We then got back to the house to go pick up the kids from school, and head to swimming. The kids started a new class today, so it was a new instructor and new skills. After swimming we headed to Yardhouse for some of our favorite meals.  Lola always orders the same thing, Tuna and rice. The boys got 0.5 yard of beer and were pretty excited about it.

September 7, 2023 (Grocery shopping, Library and Andy's)

We cleaned the master bedroom.  Lola loves doing tasks like this and it was very satifisfying when we cleaned it all, even dusted!.   We headed to the grocery store while DD and AA worked.  We were excited to see pumpkins filled the front that were watermelons the last time we had been there just a few days before.

We picked up T from School and headed to the library, as B had Little Bells practice for her big performance on the weekend. T picked books for both him and B, but had a hard time only picking 3 for each of them.  After the library we went to pick up B, and headed back to the house where Lola made meatballs, beans and rice for supper.  Everyone enjoyed it!

After the kids went to bed, DD and AA headed to Andy's for a frozen custard treat, Lola had Italian ice.

September 8, 2023 (Little Bells and Sushi!)

This morning Lola and MBMell cleaned up the deck, trimmed some trees, repotted some plants, cleaned up some yard waste and moved around some furniture.  It was productive but wow it was sweaty.  It was already 40 degrees at 10 am...

Lola made egg salad sandwhiches for lunch, which we all enjoyed (the adults).

We then picked up T from Chess Club and then went to pick up B after her first Little Bells performance of Frozen Jr.  We were just supposed to pick her up but the teacher let us sneak in the back of the auditorium to see B perform.  It was so cute, all the little kids signing with their actions.

Back at the house we cleaned up for our dinner reservation at 4:30 to enjoy a wonderful meal at Uchiko.  We just let the waitress/chief pick food for the table.  AA, DD and MBMell shared 10 courses and enjoyed the tastes of Sake.  The food was amazing, the fish was max 48 hours old and just melted in your mouth.  The kids really enjoyed the chicken and avacado rolls, and of course the dessert.  The waitress felt bad that Lola couldn't have any dessert so she brought her a nice plate of fruit.  The meal was so wonderful, thanks to DD for treating us.

Back at the house we finally had some time to play games with the kids, so we of course played Sushi Go Party!.  Once the kids went to bed, the adults had lots of laughs playing games.

September 9, 2023 (Little Bells part 2)

This morning was Saturday, and Lola and AA got up to spend some time with B and T.  We enjoyed breakfast together, played a board game and then some video games. We ate lunch at the house, before getting B to her next performance.  This time Lola and MBMell had tickets to watch the show.  It was so good, all the kids did such a great preformance.

While the girls were out, the boys went bowling.

We had supper back at the house, which included making bubble tea (because of a card game we enjoyed playing together).  The kids didn't think it was a good as they thought.

After supper we all headed back to see the final show by B, and her school mates.  We all enjoyed the show and proud of B and her performance.  Her arms were so dramatic.

Got the kids to bed and the adults enjoyed some more games.

September 10th, 2023 (last day)

We made the best of the time left we had together today. We headed to Shake Shack as Lola's request for the adults 3rd time and kids 2 time while we were there.  The food was soooo good.

Back at the house we played some games all together where B and T proved to DD that they could play the "adult" game, you got crabs.  And they were very good at it.

Everyone dropped us off at the airport.  It was a great car ride, but sad to be going home. We got dropped off, got some Starbucks and Lola got some food as she knew she couldn't eat the meal on the plane.  The flight was pretty uneventful, but nice to have so much room in Premium.  Calgary Airport was pretty empty when we got there.  Then back to Winnipeg.

We had such a great trip despite the few incidents and the super hot weather.

Till next time, Lola.
