Oahu, Hawaii - Day 5 (Beach Day)

Today we headed on the north-west side of island to see what beaches we could find.  There were lots but many of the beaches had "red flags" meaning that swimming was not recommended because of the high surf.

The first beach we stopped at was Nanakuli Beach Park.  It was clear that the water was not safe for us to go swimming/snorkelling.  So we continued to Pokai Bay Beach Bar which was more sheltered with a breakwater.  The beach wasn't very busy and had a lifeguard shack which made everyone feel safe.

We spent about about 1.5 hrs swimming, snorkelling and playing in the sand before we cleaned up and loaded back up in the van to go for lunch.  AA found a restaurant that they tried to go to but when they got there it was managed by the military, and we couldn't figure how to get through the gated security, so DD found a restaurant that was highly recommended on the internet and across from the McDonalds that we were going to go to as a last resort.

The restaurant was called Coquito's.  The pina coldas weren't the best, but the sandwiches were amazing. Lola even got a sandwich made from fried plantains. Everyone enjoyed their food.

After lunch we headed more north to a beach AA wanted to visit, Makua Beach.  The kids were driving Lola a little crazy in the van, so she decided to go for a walk down the beach.  Once everyone got onto the beach and saw the views, they didn't want to leave.  We walked about half a mile down the beach before turning around.  We saw a turtle in the water, crabs on the sand, lava rock in the sand, and a small rain shower.

As we were driving back to the condo, we saw the most beautiful rainbow. Stopping at the grocery store to pick up food for supper for today and the next.

Supper was kind of weird, a mixture of breakfast foods (even though AA doesn't like eating breakfast at dinner.  We had fried spam, guava strawberry and chocolate macadamia nut pancakes, hash browns, breakfast sausages, grilled pineapple and veggies and hummus.

Kids went to bed and we played some games.  It was a pretty good beach day with a wonderful sunset right from our lani.
