Germany 2019 - Day 4

We had breakfast this morning before AA headed back on the road to where he was working for the day.

clear skys before Lola closed the curtain to make it dark in the room again.

Lola is at the blue dot, AA is south.

Lola went back to bed again after he left, but this time set an alarm to  not sleep the entire morning away.  She got up just before 10 and got ready for the day.  Headed the other way down the water to a park right near our hotel.  The park is huge and full of pathways, and play areas, as well as part of the fortification walls.  At the very end, was an aquarium/zoo that I had planned on visiting.

It was only 5 Euros to get in and it showed.  It was very small with not very many "main" attraction animals.  You walked in to the aquarium part where there were many small tanks full of fish and then into the reptiles and bugs.  Highlights were the "Finding Nemo fish" as well as the gerbils (didn't know they were considered 'zoo' animals).  Then into the arboretum to see some turtles, alligator and birds (in cages).

Outside there were farm animals, pigs, horses, donkey's, roosters and goats.  Also there were emu and ostrich that Lola was a little nervous about being bitten as well as very friendly peacocks.  There was supposed to be a bear, but she couldn't find it.

After about an hour of wondering she left and found some WiFi that was near the zoo to see if she could find some where to eat.  There were a few places in the park, but as she walked around they seemed to be closed, maybe it is out of season, so back to the hotel she went to take a little break and find somewhere to eat.

She found a little cafe across the street from the hotel, Einsteins Cafe.  She had her first beef of the trip, and didn't really enjoy it, but the fries were sure good.

After lunch she headed for a little venture to go to the gift shop that she eyed up yesterday but seemed to be closed, it was right near the Ulm Munster (big church).  She found a magnet there, and then headed on her way through the shopping area to see what else she could find.  A toque made it Germany, why not!

Then for the grand finally of the afternoon, a walk over to Neu-Ulm, the other side of the water.  It was pathway interchanges to get there, but eventually after going through a park, and through some pedestrian tunnels, she found her way to get across.  The walk on the other side did not disappoint.  The views of the fortified city walls with all the historic buildings was amazing, not to mention the fall colours.

The walk was pleasant with a stop at the island she could see from the other side, where there was a monument, it is all German so don't know it represents.

Back at the hotel to beat AA back from work.  He worked for 2 hours while Lola chatted with friends, replied to a few emails as well as watched the end of a movie she had downloaded.  Who knew that we would take a photo of each other without the other knowing.

Off for supper, Lola the tour guide took AA down the river walk to the Fishermans Quarter where all the sights were shown that she had enjoyed the day before.  Guys AA was working with recommended we go to a restaurant in that area, but it was full when we got there, and would have to wait 2 hours to get in, so we went in the basement of the same building for some food.  Wow did we get food.

AA's XXL schnitzel was huge while Lola's "small Plate" was at least 3 potatoes of french fries.  The sausage and fries was good, and wow were we full after that meal.  Each of us didn't finish.

An evening stroll back to the hotel to show AA the court house, do some window shopping as well as show him the Einstein Fountain.   Back at the hotel, AA did a little more work, then Lola blogged and chatted with her parents.

It was a good last full day here in Ulm, and the 24000 steps sure makes me tired.

Tomorrow AA says he has a surprise once we leave Ulm, so we will see where he brings us.

By the way, the weather here has been pretty nice, about a high of 17 degrees and a low of 9. The sun has been shinning and the wind is pretty calm.

Night, Lola.
