Hawaii 2017 - Travel day and day 1 in paradise

The travel day was pretty uneventful. Aa and Lola flew on a different time of day flight than in the past, Leaving mid afternoon instead of early in the morning.  It gave us a chance to go to the gym, wash the Etron (aka zippy) and purchase a book as well as get Adam the $1 coffee from McDonald's. the cab picked us up around 1 pm and off to the airport we went excited to start our long day to get to Hawaii and to meet up with MBMell, Dd, T and B.

We flew into Vancouver, ate supper and then got on the long awaited flight to paradise. It was longer than I remembered, and there was some bad turbulence, sure glad I had AA there to let me squeeze.  The most eventful part of that flight was watching the lady beside us decide to do an iOS update on her phone, not just the westjet update as suggested by the flight attendant.  We watched that bar go so slowly across the screen, poor woman, I think as more and more people got on the plane the more nervous she was.  By the time we pushed back it thankfully updated and all was well, but wow that could have been bad.

AA watched 4 movies and Lola watched 1 and parts of the other 3, can't believe how sleepy she got. Once arriving in Kona AA went to get the rental van while Lola stayed to collect Luggage. We were a little concerned as the rental place closed at 10:30 but called a head, and they said they would stay open, but you never know.  AA got there at about 11, got it all worked out and came back to get Lola and the 2 suitcases.


We drove the 30 minutes to the Hilton Wiakola Village, checked in, parked the van and headed on our tram ride to the ocean tower.  We got a room right beside our friends, but they were sleeping by the time we arrived. We slept off and on all night, but Lola couldn't wait for neighbours to wake up.

MBMell texted and Lola was pretty much instantly knocking on the door. I am not sure who was more excited to see who, but reunited😀.

We headed to the buffet breakfast (highlight for Lola) and enjoyed each others company.

After breakfast we came back to our rooms and got our swimming attire on, T insisted to come into our room, which was fine, we got dressed and Lola went over sun screened the twinkies And we headed to the tram to the Kona Pool. The water was too cold for the ladies, so the men and children had a great time in the pool. The Twinkies swimming lessons have really paid off.  The little fish loved jumping in, swimming and playing.  B continued to ask Lola to take a photo....

After the pool we had a refreshing drink and warmed up.

Lunch was had at the Lagoon Grill. Food was good, drinks were had and company was great!

After lunch we had a great walk back to the ocean tower.  We got to see the turtles in the lagoon, fishes, jelly fish and the art.

The kids napped before the Luau tonight. The boys are played MARIO cart and the girls enjoyed each others company... vacation/travel planning.

We enjoyed the Luau this evening. We had a great evening, and the kids enjoyed the food and entertainment. T wasn't a fan of his Lei, and thought some of the dances were scary, but sure enjoyed eating all you can eat buffet for 1.5 hours.  B loved the evening, especially sitting with the men. Kids went to bed and the adults hung out in the other room with the monitor near by.
