Hawaii 2017 - Day 2, Wednesday

Today was started again on the earlier side, waking up at 7am from some text messages.  The weather outside was too nice to not go out and enjoy it so Lola and AA went for a morning run.  After 1.3 miles (according to Lola's Fitbit), we had run from our hotel to both extreme ends of the resort:

Not bad scenery for a run in November

After our run, we stretched and then went back to the hotel room to get ready to go for breakfast with the gang.  Lola got B ready for the day and gave her a ponytail to try and keep her hair out of her eyes for breakfast.

2-3/4 going on 12

Lola decided to take us on a "short cut" to breakfast.  15 mins later and walking around the pools at our hotel and then along the lagoon, we arrived at breakfast.  The twinkies were hungry and ate their fair share at the buffet.  T ate for pretty close to an hour, B wasn't much behind him and equally was eating off of Lola's plate.

After breakfast, we went back to the hotel room and got into our swim suits to go swimming.  The kids had a great time in the water, swimming from one slide to the other.  And by swimming, I mean holding on to AA and DD as they pulled them in the water.  After about 20 mins of sliding, MBMell got up the courage to get into the water.  Lola, resumed her duties as "photographer".

The kids made some friends with a couple (in their 50's or 60's) from Iowa who were playing cards by the pool.  The couple were pretty amazed by how well the kids could swim.

After spending a good amount of time at the pool, we went back and got dressed into our "street clothes" and made our way to Kona.  Our plan was originally to go for sushi and then do a tour of the Kona Brewery.  Shortly into our drive, we had to make some changes - we (read "the kids") needed some more diapers so a stop at Target was needed.  Plus, Lola wanted to get some snacks because clearly we aren't eating enough food while we are here (lol).  Then, we determined that we wouldn't have enough time to go for sushi so we went right to the brewery to go on our tour.

Unfortunately, the tour was booked up and only runs at 10:30 and 3:00 each day.  Fortunately, they had a restaurant and it wasn't too busy so we got seated relatively quickly.

MBMell ordered some edamame beans as an appetizer because the twinkies were hungry.  AA and DD ordered some flights of beer and sampled many different types of beer which isn't commonly found in bottles on the mainland.  Lola ordered some iced tea while MBMell ordered a chardonnay.

The food at the restaurant was amazing.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they had ordered and also were quite happy with the green papaya slaw that came with their meals.

After lunch at 3pm, we made our way to some stores to go shopping for some local Hawaiian shirts (DD was in the hunt for these).  After a brief shopping excursion, we went back to the van primarily to deal with some diapers.

It was then a quick stop at Target again (this time to get some BEvERages and let Lola go to the bathroom) and then back towards the hotel for more shopping - this time at Queen's Marketplace which is very near our hotel.

After shopping, we went to Macaroni Grill for supper which was a little disappointing considering the last time we were there (5 years ago?) the service and food was great - this time, quite the opposite.

We got back to the hotel just in time to get the twinkies, who were starting to turn into gremlins due to the lack of a nap today, into bed.

It's going to be an earlier night tonight as it was a relatively long day - made even longer with T talking non-stop since about 5pm because he was getting tired.

Tomorrow is going to be spent at the resort again, this time with some napping.

Aloha!
