San Diego 2019 - Day 8

Today was Legoland day.  And it was pretty epic, if you ask the kids.

We made the short 40 mins drive to Legoland and got there before most of the rides had opened.  I know, shocking.  It was hard to say who was more excited - DD or the kids.

We started the day with the Birthday Cruise - a short boat tour around the Legoland lagoon to see all of the lego statues.  It was quite amazing to hear how many bricks were used to build them - most of them are on the order of a couple hundred thousand bricks.  NYC is over 8 million bricks.

Then, we went on the Dragon Rollercoaster.  B was a fan, T didn't want to go initially but eventually changed his mind and rode with MBM.  Afterwards, he was pretty excited because he had so much fun.

Then the twinkies went on a jousting match with the black knight - they had fun.

Afterwards, we went on another underwater adventure on the newest ride at Legoland - Deep Sea Adventure.  The kids (and adults) had fun marking down all of the items they saw in the water.  The kids and DD took another ride while MBM, Lola and AA went to get lunch at Knights' Smokehouse.

"Now we are on vacation" - Lola
With full bellies, it was time for the kids to go on another solo ride on the Cargo Ace before standing in line for the Technic Coaster.  Not surprising, T wasn't so sure he wanted to go on the ride and his face said it all when they took their first drop as AA and Lola were able to watch the entire thing from another car that was ahead of them.

Next was the Lost Kingdom Adventure which was a shooting game, similar to Toy Story Mania.  Lola and AA tied on their ride.

After the ride, the crew enjoyed walking through the Star Wars area, looking at all of the re-creations of each movie's iconic scenes.  This was AA's favourite.

Then it was time for some more kids rides followed by a couple of turns of Junior Driving School where the kids each got to drive their own car by themselves.  It was hilarious watching them drive - B trying to stay in her lane and T turning the steering wheel from side to side to try and go straight.  Hilarious.

Our final rides were slower - Fairy Tale Brook (a slow boat ride through Lego renditions of some fairytales) and Safari Trek (a slow car ride through a safari of Lego animals).

A small snack was needed to keep twinkies and Lola going until supper - Apple Fries were highly recommended and they didn't disappoint.  AA took some extra looking through Miniland USA.

Flat Iron Building - NYC

Lombard Street in San Francisco
There was a small melt-down as we left the park as the kids each wanted something from the gift store but the parents held their ground saying that (1) the kids are too young for most lego and (2) that you can buy lego at other stores.  That worked.

We made our way to a different BJ's Restaurant for supper.  With all the different options, it was going to give DD something to pick from while B, T and Lola each ordered the same things (well, Lola did have chicken instead of shrimp this time).

Keeping ourselves entertained while we wait for supper

Before making the 40 mins drive back to the house, a short shopping trip was needed so DD could get some underwear.  In the 15 mins he had to pack before his flight, he managed to pack 6 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of jeans, 3 hoodies and 2 t-shirts but no underwear.  Lol.

Tomorrow will be another quieter day - museum in the morning and then beach in the afternoon.  We are looking to soak up as much sun as we can on our last full day in San Diego.

Bonus material - DD's snack when he got to the house last night - left over spaghetti in a serving bowl.
