Today was a little stressful for AA, so he didn’t sleep well. He was worried about the train and being onetime, and didn’t sleep very well.
AA, T and B went to get breakfast this morning, B getting a natural croissant (no extra butter), and B getting a raisin pastry. Lola scrambled up some eggs, and put extra cheese, and let the kids have some grape juice as we were trying to clean out the fridge.
We did the “check out” for the Airbnb, stripping beds, and dishes and then headed out.
Here are the photos of the place we stayed.
We had to get out of there by 9:30 am, and did pretty good, as we had “timed” train tickets to get to Caen. We walked to the metro to get to the train station. We were also worried about our bags, but the metro part was the easy part.
Once at the Gare Saint-Lizare station, we made our way to try and find the trains. The sign was pretty small out of the metro station but we were successful. We wondered around, got a few snacks/drinks and then headed to the train.
This was a little stressful, as we didn’t know what we were doing, and there was a lot of people. Rushing to get onto the right car, we did not, and there was a traffic jam and with our bags, we had to exit the train and try and get on the right car. We felt like we were going to miss the train, but finally found the right car. Stacked our luggage on top of others, and got to our seats. A lady was very nice to switch so we had 4 and 2 instead of 3 and 3.
All settled, T put his show on right away, and we made it. Now AA can relax. We all had a seat and our bags at our feet, but we were on our way. The country side of France was seen out the window. It was crazy how many people were on this train…. Like is this a daily thing?
Lola's back is still pretty tight, but she is making it by. Luckily AA carried the big suitcase up the stairs at the metro station.
We had about an 2 hour ride on the train through the French countryside. It was a little squishy, but we made it. AA tried to sleep, but wasn't very successful, Lola caught up on the blog and looked at the map and out the window, B and T were on the Switch and ipad, MBM read her book.
We walked up a large steep hill to get to the Airbnb. Once arrived B was not having where we were, and didn't like how old it was. Caen is a very old city, going back to 1060. We got our stuff in the place, and B hid as she was upset about her bed.
So 4 of us went to get some food. We walked a short way to Krispy, for some swarma. He was a one man show and told us we only had 15 minutes. At this time we had ordered, and then DD and B texted they were on their way until DD hurt his finger trying to get the key out of the door. We were getting take out anyways, so they told us what they wanted and we ordered for them.
T and Lola went to the grocery store to get some drinks, and 2 apples, and headed back to the house, MBM and AA joined us with the food.
B had turned her mood around when we got back, and we all had a good meal. Everyone had a little time to themselves, the two older guys slept and the younger played video games, and Lola blogged while MBM read her book.
We headed to the Castle of Caen, we got tickets for the tram to get down the hill to the center of the City. what a fancy public transportation system for a City of only about 105,000. We got our tickets at the station right by our place and headed a few stops to the Castle.
We arrived and walked around looking at the sky line from the top of the walls. It was pretty neat, and really old. It was built by Willam the Conqueror in 1060. We couldn't believe how many churches were in the skyline. There was also a portion of the castle that was destroyed during the french revolution. Inside the walls were many buildings, but also a church that was being restored, and had a plaque on the outside honouring the men and woman of the Province of Ontario who served in the Royal Canadian Navy and Army and Air Force in the battle of normandy 1944.

The kids and MBM were very excited about the Moat Sheep that were keeping the grass cut. DD didn't like the portion of the wall that the sheep were by, as the wall was short and the kids loved to overlook them.
After the castle we found a place to eat for supper... why not the Cafe de Caen. DD and Lola were both looking at the same place, so settled on that. A short walk through a pedestrian mall, and we made our way inside. The meals were ok, MBM had salmon, AA a casear Salad with chicken, DD and B with Pasta, and T with a Cheese and Tomato omlette. Lola decided to have the Duck breast with fries. She treated herself to some Lemon and Raspberry Sorbet as she didn't get dessert the day before.
We got back on the tram making our way back to the Airbnb. The kids went to bed, AA and DD went for a few groceries (but didn't end up bringing home any eggs), and then we played a few games of Monopoly Deal, and MBM and AA went to bed. DD and Lola played some video games, while T kept still getting up and wouldn't go to sleep. Hopefully he is sleeping now.

AA isn't feeling the greatest, so hopefully he will be ok in the morning to get us our rental car to go on our roadtrip adventure.
Good night, Lola.
Ps, her back is still pretty sore, she should have stretched before getting into bed and finishing the blog.
