Spring Break 2022 - Alberta Day 7

Today was the last day of our vacation.  It was an earlier morning as we said good bye to our travel companions as they started their journey back to Manitoba.

AA and Lola made the most of their time before their flight at 5pm from Edmonton by driving to Medicine Lake and then on to Maligne Lake for some spectacular mountain views.  At one stretch of road by the Maligne River, they found a young female moose grazing on some lichen (or otherwise just some tree branches).

At Maligne Lake, some red Parks Canada chairs were found, after AA proceeded to sink up to his knees in snow a couple times.  It was quite amazing to not hear anything (no animals or people) and even the wind was pretty quiet - so peaceful!

After some short sightseeing, it was time to start the drive to the airport.  The plan was to find a rest stop in the Park to eat a picnic lunch but each time they found a spot on the map, they somehow proceeded to drive by the stop.  So, instead they pulled over just outside the main Park gate and ate lunch in the car.

Unfortunately, the objects were getting further away...

The drive to the airport was relatively uneventful.  Lola was starting to stress about whether there was going to be enough time to get something to eat at the airport as AA timed the drive almost perfectly to get them to check in their baggage at 1.5 hrs before their flight.  In the end, there was enough time to get bags checked in, through security and get something to eat before departure.  Lola was happy.

The flight back was through Saskatoon - a short 1 hr flight and 45 mins layover and then onto another 1.25 hr flight to Winnipeg.  The Saskatoon airport was pretty quiet with only three more flights to depart today.  The flights were routine and we are now at home, getting ready to sleep in our own bed.

It was a great vacation after such a long time of staying home.  It was especially nice to be able to share some good experiences with friends.  Of course, we are now looking forward to our next adventures and can't wait for camping reservations to open up this week.
