Wintery Whistler

Day 2 of skiing / snowboarding
By: Adam

Today was a great day for skiing. Over a foot of snow fell last night.

The day started early-ish. We were at the hill by 830 but Eric and Gwen went back to the condo to get shoes for those who had to return rentals after skiing today. I dropped Jamie off at ski camp but apparently not the right location. I then waiting with David (Eric's dad), Diana (his sister) and Sean in the  line for the gondola up whistler mountain.  An hour later, we were up.

And then we waited... For another 30 mins for Eric and Gwen to show up. That was ok, got to watch some of the Can vs Fin hockey game plus another cup of coffee.  From there, we were ready for the slopes.

David took us to what we thought was a green run. Well, it wasn't... It was pretty much straight down. We made it to the first green run so all was good. From there, we made it down to the Red Express and rode up for lunch.

After lunch, we took another 3 runs. Sure, might not sound like much but here are the stats from the day:

After, we were toast. Well, at least I was. My legs were tired.  We went back to Merlin's for drinks and nachos. The order of nachos was MASSIVE.

From there, we met our chauffeur at the Fairmont and loaded up. I then waited with David for the rest of the group to drop off their rentals. Once loaded up it took us an hour to get back to the condo. Traffic was rediculous. It didn't help that the traffic was slow due to the snow that continued to fall all day.   In fact, the highway is currently closed to Vancouver.

Waiting in traffic

Maybe that is why we couldn't get the van up the hill to the condo... Instead, we hiked up, Adam carrying two snow boards and David parked the van back in town.  Got my work out for the day I guess you could say.

Fire works from the Fire and Ice show in whistler, as viewed from the condo as we were all too tired to walk down.

Tomorrow should be an easier going day.  Snowmobiling in the morning and that is it.  Good thing too, my legs can use a rest.

I'll see what videos I can upload to YouTube for my entourage of followers ;)
