My feet hurt. Some of us have a slight sun burn. But today was... AMAZING!
It was an early start this morning with the original goal being to leave the villa by 6:20. We knew that was a stretch goal and were not too much later with leaving the room at 6:35.
The kids were understandably tired. B woke up and knew what today meant. It didn't matter to T, he wanted more sleep. Regardless, 15 minutes late leaving the villa was considered a win today.
It was a short walk to the Grandstand bus stop. And then a 15 minutes ride to Hollywood Studios. The crew was pretty happy to be the one of the first ones on the bus and able to get seats, not that the bus was very full but full enough.
The day at Hollywood Studios was focused on Star Wars (Galaxy's Edge), with it being "Star Wars Day" (ie. May the Fourth). The kids (and DD) were super excited to take in all the sites, sounds and smells. And they were not disappointed.
The first ride was Smugglers Run. The gang got in the wrong line at the start but after realizing their mistake, got into the ride line and was immersed in a team cooperation ride where everyone had a job to complete the mission. AA and Lola were the engineers (fitting), B and MBM were the gunners and responsible for taking down enemy fighters. DD and T were the pilots. T boasted that he didn't do much of his job, saying that he didn't want to take his focus away from the ride. B claims that she singlehandedly took down all of the enemy fighters. That's questionable but no one is arguing with her. Lola and AA did their job splendidly, owing to their years of experience with Engineering.
Next up, we went to the other Star Wars ride - Rise of the Resistance. The ride was terrific and so was the scene in the destroyer ship bay with all the storm troopers.
There were many photo stops in front of all the cool spacecraft.
Next, it was time to cool off with the Muppets 3D show. AA really enjoyed the show - the humour clearly is aimed at him.
After, it was time for some lunch. The crew was hungry and needed a break after being at the hotel for close to 4 hrs.
After lunch, the kids had reservations to build some droids. This was all that they talked about all morning - T was worried they would miss their reservation and wouldn't have enough time to eat lunch. They were super excited to build their droids which the adults have named "R2-B2" and "R2-T2".
Once their droids were built, it was time for some Toy Story Mania - an interactive ride with a carnival-like shoot game. AA was the high-score winner:
After Toy Story Mania, it was time for the surprisingly good ride Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railroad. This was an all-round favourite, except for T who now claimed that it wasn't fast and exciting enough for him. Yes, we all had the same thought as you - "What? You don't like fast and exciting rides". LOL.
Once the ride was finished and sunscreen was re-applied, we took a short walk around the central area to see all of the 50th Anniversary statues (7 statues, 9 characters AA kept saying to himself).
Once all 9 characters (and 7 statues) were found, we started to make our way back to Galaxy's Edge for supper. B, DD, Lola and AA made a short detour to Star Tours on the way since the line-up was only 10 mins long.
We had some more time to kill and decided to have Green and Blue "milk" from the Milk Stand in Galaxy's Edge:
Then we were on our way to supper at Docking Bay 7.
Supper was amazing - everyone was very pleased with their meal. And B, T and MBM were able to share a special May the 4th dessert.
On the way out of the park, DD and AA got ahead of the gang so they could get one last beer (Longboard from Kona Brewing, out of Hawaii) before the left the park.
Then, it was a short bus ride back to the hotel so the kids could play with their newly fabricated remote control droids before a shower and bed.
We are now contemplating if we should have another early (but not as early) morning, or if we should elect for a later start or mid-day break in order to be at the park for some fireworks at 9pm. Either way, it shouldn't be another 5:40am alarm tomorrow.
AA
I wish I was there for this exciting celebration! Grandpa
