40th Birthday Trip - Day 4 (Hamburg Germany)

AA and Lola didn't sleep well last night waking up at 2:00 and not falling asleep for a while. Lola thinks she was away for almost 1.5 hours, but AA is not sure.  He knows he changed his alarm at 5am, to let himself sleep a little longer in the morning, as this time change hasn't been easy for him.

He got up, had breakfast and then went to work.  Lola continued to sleep until there was a knock at the door (at 10am). To her surprise it was the suitcase delivered!  She was very excited to brush her hair!

Lola got dressed, found her hat and off she went to a gluten free restaurant/bakery!

As she walked towards the restaurant she stumbled on City Hall.  It was in a big plaza area, right near the water.  It was beautiful!

Arriving at Isabellas, she didn't know the breakfast stopped being service at 12:00pm, but she ordered just in the knick of time (4 minutes to spare).  She  ordered Avacado Stullen with a poached egg, and earl grey tea with  a splash of Almond Milk.

The food and drink were very good, and she picked up a croissant for an afternoon snack.  She really wanted a cinamon bun, but they didn't have any in the shop.

After lunch she headed site seeing, the fountain in the City Hall Court yard, and headed towards the subway station to try and see if she could figure it out.

Lola bought a 4 day Hamberg ticket for sections A and B (under tourist tickets).  She walked right onto the subway (and didn't have to use her ticket).  She isn't really sure how this works, no turn styles, so checking, just honour system. Her first destination was to see The Beatles Tribute (that was in the show she watched).

To her surprise she got off the subway, up the stairs to police, homeless people and a lot of signs about sex.  "red light district of Hamburg"?  She didn't feel super comfortable so she walked to the monument where there were 3 teenagers sitting, took a few photos, and back on the subway.

She headed to the Elbtunnel, that goes under the river to the other side.  It is for walking and cycling only.  One side is under renovation, but the other side that seems to be completed was beautiful white tiles and bright. She walked down the stairs to see the infrastucture, and then took the lifts at the other end and back up once returned. It was a neat walk under the water, but once you get to other side it wasn't as cool.  Checked out the skyline across the river.

Next was to check out the beach.  Yes there is a beach on the river... This was a little more adventurous as she had to take the subway than transfer to the Bus in Altona. It happened without any incident, but she still hasn't used her ticket.  Just walked on the subway and then boarded the bus. She was a little worried when the bus was not following google maps, but she read on about their was construction and 3 stops were moved, eventually the bus got back on the proper route just before the stop.

getting off the bus.

She got off the bus and headed to the beach.  Not a far walk, and there was the sand. Pretty cool to see the cargo ship moving out of the channel. She stopped at a little cafe called Strand Perle to have a beverage.  Yes sparkling apple juice please :) sitting by the water watching boats go by, and feeling the warm sun, until the sun was gone under the clouds.

She paid 50 cent euros for the washroom, then headed on her way to explore the shore.

Walking back through Neumuhlen, Landungsbrucken, and Donners Park, Altonaer Balkon and back to the subway (different station). And eating her first ever croissant. She also saw her first light house (part of a outdoor museum).

Back to the hotel to rest up and wait for AA to come back.

Once he arrived we went for dinner a 15 minute walk away.  It has gluten free burgers.  Lola got a Pink Drink, which was a mix of fruit blended, which was really good.  AA had the spicy burger of course.

We walked back to the hotel, AA did some work to prepare for a meeting tomorrow, and then went to bed.  Hopefully he can sleep through the night.

Lola isn't sure what she is going to do tomorrow, just happy to have clean clothes.  The weather today was wonderful, no rain, and sun was shinning.

Night Lola.
