Today was a rough day with our travel companions. T didn't have a good night, and essentially kept waking up like every half an hour, it was a bad cycle of others waking up, and waking T up then he waking another up... AA and Lola are on the floor above them, so they slept pretty good (plus not jet lagged anymore).
AA, T and B went to the bakery this morning as DD was having major intestinal issues, and MBMell wanted to shower. It was not a very successful trip as B order then nutella croissant, and got a pistachio croissant. She was so upset when she got back, and was in a horrible mood. She journaled, and Lola convinced her to have a cheesy scrambled egg on a croissant that Lola would make for her.
She also was upset that she couldn't wear the sweater that she got nutella on the day before. She did eventually eat the breakfast. The rest had different pastries than the day before, and all enjoyed them. Lola had boiled eggs, peanut butter on a rice cake and a banana.
Once everyone was finally ready we headed to the Palace of Versailles. B still upset about the croissant. We rode 2 trains to get there and walked with the crowd to were were were going. Unfortunately we didn't pre-buy tickets, so once we got there at around 10:30, we had to buy tickets for 3:00pm for going inside the building.
- The main palace with about 2000 rooms, (yellow ticks on the Versailles map below)
- 2 royal residences: the Petit Trianon & The Grand Trianon,
- 70 hectares of gardens and bosquets including 16 groves and 75 fountains
- 431 hectares for the large park
- 24 hectares for the Grand Canal
- 96 hectares for Marie Antoinette’s Estate
- As well as hundreds of statues and secret groves, greenhouses, and much much more.
So we were able to walk around the gardens and we walked around, even headed to the Grounds of Trianon. It was pretty cold and a little rainy but we made the most of it.
After we headed back for lunch at a cafe, unfortunately all the seats were full in the inside, so we sat outside. It was pretty cold, but we powered through it. B didn't like the ravioli she ordered to switched meals with MBMell. T had the best sausage and mashed potatoes and the kids enjoyed their hot chocolates.
After lunch we toured more of the grounds, and B was now upset she didn't get to go a boat, but DD wasn't feeling well at all, and didn't want to get more cold.
We found the musical fountain and a circular area in the garden that were pretty neat.
We then went to walk to get in line for the palace. We got there around 2:30, and it was a great choice. There were guards with large guns surveying the crowd, it made us a little nervous. DD had a power nap and started to feel a little better. B journaled about her horrible day.
We got through security, and with the mob of people headed to visit the palace. History, Hall of mirrors, the apartments, and T's favourite the Battles Gallery. It may have been Lola's favourite part because she loves the architecture of the room, and it wasn't crowded with people.
Once through, we stopped to use the washroom, and was going to head to the daughters apartment, but made a wrong turn and ended up existing, oh well, we were all pretty tired.
We walked back to the Train, and got back to "our place". The kids took showers, we ordered food in, DD tried to feel better, and Lola went to the grocery store to pick up a few things.
Riding for 2 stops....fell alseep. |
Riding for 5 stops... fell asleep. |
the food arrived and Lola hadn't made it back yet, as she was caught in rush hour of the grocery store (everyone picking up things for supper).
Once she walked back, she missed the place and almost went a block extra.... silly her, she should have used google maps to make sure she didn't pass it buy.
walked too far... |
We all enjoyed our chicken delivery. Well DD didn't eat with us, but later had it once he started to feel better.
The kids played some video games, and then went to bed. DD, AA and Lola played a game of cribbage before AA couldn't keep his eyes open, and MBMell went to bed (before we had started). It was a close game at the beginning, but AA actually ended up winning and skunking DD...
We have another busy day planned tomorrow, and the weather isn't looking very warm, so hopefully we can dress warm enough to enjoy the day.
Night Lola.
