Japan 2024 - Harry Potter Studio Tour, Senso-ji Temple and Samurai Ninja Museum (June 2)

Today was a soggy day.  The crew started with eating some breakfast in the Airbnb (after DD went to get another option for the kids who do not eat egg salad sandwiches which, by the way, are delicious from 7-Eleven in Japan.

It was an 8 minute walk to the metro station which was long enough for everyone to test their rain jackets (and “B’s” umbrella, which T has stated is not what was said when the umbrella was purchased a few days ago to fend off the other soggy, rainy day that the crew had to deal with).

After the 1.25 hrs metro rides, the Harry Potter museum was reached.  Once inside, B and MBM were in their elements, looking at all of the sets, props and costumes from the Harry Potter movies.  DD and T enjoyed it as well, look at the same items and DD explaining how the computer generated creatures use the same methods as what is used in video game development. That kept the kids attention.

Only a couple items were purchased from the gift shop (B got a Slytherin head band, Lola got a pin and MBM got a magnet) it was time to have some lunch at the Harry Potter themed restaurant in the museum.  Lola wanted to have the all day English breakfast but after AA talked with staff, it was decided that this was not an option because of her allergies, therefore a low allergy meal was chosen.

It wouldn’t be possible to leave the museum without having a Harry Potter themed dessert.  The foursome enjoyed their selections.

Next, the crew was determined to see temple and selected one that was walking distance from their Airbnb.  Upon arrival at the Senso-Ji Temple, Mother Nature decided it was time to rain.  And it rained!  It was a brisk walk through a shopping district to the temple and a short walk around to see whatever the group could see without getting too wet before heading to the Airbnb to dry off and rest a bit before their next adventure.

The kids passed the time by playing video games in their room.  The adults killed time on their phones (DD learned the art of creating stickers on his iPhone from photos while AA looked for supper options). At 5:15, it was time to make the short walk to the Tokyo Samurai Ninja Museum near their place which was highly rated.

The museum was really good.  Lots of history about Samurais and Ninjas was learned by all (T absorbed everything like a sponge). The group got to dress up in Samurai gear for some group photos and even got to throw some Ninjas throwing stars.  T won the competition for the group of 15 that was part of the tour group.  When asked why he wouldn’t throw his star at the same time as the other final competitor, he explained it was so that he could see if he needed to try to get a good score.  B was pretty proud of her brother for winning the mini tournament.

After the museum, it was a short walk back to the Airbnb with a short pitstop at a fresh food grocery store for some breakfast foods, snacks and, of course, BEvERages (and other drinks).  AA ordered some sushi for delivery to their place while the kids played more video games and DD made more stickers, getting more excited about them to the point where B had to close the door to the group living room because he was being too loud.

Supper was good, the kids tried some sushi but were not big fans.  Luckily there were other options (deep fried squash in tempura and French fries).  After supper, the kids wanted to play a couple video games with the adults before it was bed time.

Once the kids were asleep, the adults played some cribbage while MBM did some laundry and went to bed early.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a more relaxing travel day to Hiroshima which everyone is looking forward to a change of pace and scenery.
