Eric Turns 40 - San Diego 2024 - Jan 17, 2024 (Safari Park)

This morning we got up pretty early to make sure we made it to the San Diego Safari park in time for our Deluxe Safari Experience that we booked.  We arrived 1 hour before like we were told, but the gates didn't for 30 minutes, so we waited at the front and admired the plants and humming birds.

Once we got inside we went to check in for our tour, and waited again.  We finally got onto the truck where we got to tour both sections of the safari park.  It was so neat we got so close to the animals from the back of the truck.  Fan favorites were the 2 types of Rhinos, Giraffes, and the Water Buffalo.  L loved taking photos with AA's Camera.  We also learnt about the cloning of the Endangered Przewalski Horse that was born in 2023 that was done by surrogate from a a cryopreserved horse from over 40 years ago.

Once done our our tour, we headed to walk around the safari park.  We went on the tiger trail to see the 6 month old twin tigers.  We then headed through the outback, to see the only platypus outside of Australia. It was pretty dark in there, and eventually we found it swimming.  It is smaller than you would imagine, but so neat to see in real life.  On our way we also looked at the bonsai trees and checked out the kangaroos.

Headed to Thorntree restaurant, which Lola was disappointed they didn't have rice bowls like the last time they were there, so ended up having a kids meal hamburger so she could have apple sauce and a juice box.  She also got a salad.  The food was ok, but nothing to brag about.  Adam had a pretty good looking philly cheese steak sandwhich.

After lunch we headed to explore the rest of the safari park, including Africa, where we saw lions, elephants, cheetahs and many others.

We then headed to see the Gorillas.  They are so human like, just sitting separately, just minding their own business.

We made sure to get a group photo with the shirts that Lola made for this special day (as it was actually Eric's Birthday).

Headed back to the house to enjoy the hot tub before heading for dinner. The yard was so nice it even had fruit trees, which we actually didn't even try the oranges or lemons.

Cleaned up for birthday dinner we headed downtown to Greystone Streak House.  The meal was good, but we got sqished into a spot where the waiters couldn't even get to our whole table.

Lola, AA and J learnt a lesson where you should ask how much the "special" steak is before agreeing to ordering it.  Turned out to be a little more than they were expecting at $120 a steak, but wow was it good.  The waiter sure sold it!  Eric got a birthday dessert, and a huge "candle", where we sang happy birthday!

It was a great day of animal and celebrating.  Another "early" night as we had to get up early the next day too.
