We left Winnipeg at about 1 pm on Saturday for our first leg of our flight to Toronto. Pretty uneventful. AA worked on the plane while Lola watched a movie.
Arriving at TO we walked a far way to our gate, where we had just enough time to put food in our belly's and board the plane. The 777 was huge, 5 cabins, I think 2 were the fancy pods, then 1 was business class (more space) and then 2 were economy, where we were. Luckily no on was in our row, so we had an empty seat between us. Mainly to put our things and for Lola to lie down to get some sleep.

The 8 hour flight went way faster than I thought it was. AA worked some more, while Lola watched another movie, we ate supper and then we tried to get some sleep, as we were preparing for the time change. Not sure how successful we were, I think we only got 2-3 hours max, but interrupted sleep. I think this concluded day 1?
It is now Sunday....
When we landed in Munich, it was sure foggy, you could barely see the runway. Thankfully the airplane is equipped with systems that allows them to land with very little visibility.
We got off the plane and headed for a long walk to get to customs and then to get our bags. At customs, the agent didn't even ask us any questions. Looked at our passports, scanned them, stamped them and let us on our way. I was very surprised he didn't question the "business man" I am travelling with.
We headed to get our rental car. And wow did it feel good to breath in the cool crisp outside air. The plane ride was very dry, so maybe that is why it felt so good, or we had just been inside airports and planes for a long time. We got our Volvo wagon and off onto the road we went.
AA had it planed to go to the Nymphenburg Palace and Park. The GPS didn't quite get us where we were going, as first of all he didn't have the correct spelling in our itinerary as well as Lola picked the school instead of the palace.... good thing it was only another 3 minutes to get there.
We got there before the buildings opened, but enjoyed a wonderful walk around the gardens, as well as watched all the runners pass us along the way. The garden was huge and reminded us very much of the Palace of Versailles that we visited in 2008 on our first European trip together. We had a wonderful breakfast at the cafe that was on the grounds. There were palm trees and umbrellas outside (where we ate), and you almost forgot you were in Germany, and on the coast, in a tropical place for a moment.
We then headed into the Palace, built in 1664. You only got to tour a small portion, but it was pretty cool. The wall were decorated with paintings as well as lined with the same fabrics as the upholstered furniture. Lola's favorite part was actually under construction, but there was a wall of 36 portraits of different girls all done by the same artist. They say they varied from the shoemakers daughter to royalty. The artist sure made them all look so beautiful.
Back to the car we went to head to Ulm, where we will be staying for the next couple of days while AA works (the real reason we are here).
The drive was very pretty, with all the leaves changing colour. AA had a good time driving as fast as 145km/hr. On most portions of the highway there is no speed limits. It is amazing that people would pass you even if you are going 145.
We made it to our hotel and checked in. Next stop, nap. We were pretty tired. We both fell asleep very quickly and had a 2 hour nap. We didn't want to sleep too long in order to be able to sleep tonight.
A little more rested, we headed out for a walk around the town/city to go to the cool church we can see out or hotel window.
We walked down the old cobble stone streets, with the buildings towering on either side. We found the amazingly large church, Ulmer Munster, and walked around the entire structure. It is being restored (like most old buildings). All the signs were in German, but it was built in the 1300's and is the 5th tallest building constructed before the 20th century. Lola is hoping to go inside tomorrow if she can figure out the hours and what the sign really says.
Then we headed for a walk down by the water to check it out before heading for some supper. AA had a flight of beer with sausage and a pretzel, while Lola had "table Water, with gas"and sausage and fries. The food and drinks were really good. We strolled back by the church since it was darker now, and then headed back to the hotel.
AA did some work, while Lola took a shower and tried to plan her day tomorrow. Her data plan she hoped for on her cellphone isn't going to work, so now she really has to go old school and be prepared as she won't have the google machine to help her along the way. AA also found the Ironing room, on the 9th floor which was a whole bunch of ironing boards and he did his laundry.
Hopefully we can get some sleep.
