Japan 2024 - Travel Day (May 25 &26)

Well it was touch and go for AA and Lola to get out of Winnipeg, but we successfully travelled across the ocean to meet our friends in Japan.  MBMell chose this as the location to celebrate her milestone birthday, and of course we wanted to come.

It wasn’t too early for AA and Lola to get to the airport with a departure time of 8:30. Pretty standard, but once on the plane they had 2 tries at taking off , but a sensor kept tripping.  We hung out on the tarmac, and in the deicing area to see if it would start to work, but after the second attempt we had to deplane and thankfully they had a different plane in Winnipeg for us to get onto.  Our flight now departed at 11:10 am but this time no issues.  Off to Calgary.

By the time we landed in Calgary our friends had already started their journey over the ocean.  With little available communication, we just hoped we would be able to both make it.

Instead of 5 hours in Calgary we only had 2.5, so we got beverage and Lola collected some snacks and waited at the gate. Once we boarded the plane, to our surprise my coworkers wife was our flight attendant. We have known Melanie for over 10 years, and she was so good making sure I could eat the things that she gave me, and just treated us like royalty.

The flight for us was 9 hours 35 minutes, we ate meals, watched tv, listened to music, and Lola had a 3 hour nap.

Once arrived in Japan, we went through immigration and customs, and headed to catch the limousine bus. At the counter he said the next bus leaves in 6 minutes, and it is all the way at number 10.  One call on a radio and then he gave us tickets and told us to go straight there.  We made it with 1 minute to spare.  By this time our friends had made it to our hotel (they flew into a different airport), and were trying to stay awake till we got there.

It was an 1.5 hour bus ride for us, and there was an accident which added 25 minutes to our trip.  We intently watched out the window, looking at the different buildings, agriculture, and vehicles.

We made it to Tokyo Disney to find B and MBMell waiting for us outside.  The other 2 decided to “hold down the fort”.  T is still recovering from illness that he had earlier in the week, so understandable.

B couldn’t wait to see us, and tell us how she didn’t sleep on the plane, and about the desserts they had.

We headed to japans “downtown Disney”, Ikspiari, trying to find some food, and ended up at McDonalds.  DD was pretty excited to try the teriyaki chicken burger  and AA had the cheese cheese double cheese burger, it had 4 slices of cheese.

Back at the hotel (a short walk back). Everyone is in bed, and we are heading for breakfast and to Tokyo Disneyland tomorrow.

Things we have learnt so far…

1. Everyone sits to eat food, even ice cream from the shop

2. The beds are small, and the adults are bedsharing, not the kids.

3. It is very clean and trees everywhere.

Well I should probably try and get some sleep…. Everyone else is sleeping at 9:00 (on Sunday night).  This time difference is something to get used to.
